Last week President Trump signed an executive order seeking to bar transgender girls and women from playing organized sports.
This news was deeply troubling to all of us at West Sound Soccer Academy and we want to assure you that we remain as committed as ever to empowering and supporting girls who play soccer and women who coach.
And let us be clear: when we say we’re here to support girls and women, we mean all girls and women, regardless of the gender they were assigned at birth, and non-binary individuals who were assigned female at birth.
West Sound Soccer Academy was founded to create a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment where players and coaches can thrive, and we will continue to do just that. One of our main priorities is to keep girls playing sports and we are committed to the inclusion and success of transgender girls and women in sports, both within our club and in the world.
In addition, the Washington Premier League – the league WSSA teams play in – also supports transgender youth in sports and you can read their gender identity policy here.
We stand in solidarity with the transgender community and believe all youth deserve to experience the remarkable power of sport to create a sense of belonging and propel personal growth.
With love, West Sound Soccer Academy
