WSSA Recognized by COBI for Women’s History Month

Last night at their city council meeting, the City of Bainbridge Island recognized West Sound Soccer Academy in their proclamation for Women’s History Month!

It was such an honor to have players, coaches, families, and board members present to witness Lindsey Toler, our board president, receive the proclamation and say a few words on behalf of WSSA.

“Sports have always been a powerful tool for building confidence, teamwork, and resilience.  And yet, girls drop out of sports by age 14 at twice the rate of boys.  And women only make up 19% of youth soccer coaches in the US. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we reflect on the progress made and the work still ahead. One thing is certain: West Sound Soccer Academy is dedicated to breaking new ground by providing girls with strong female role models and ensuring that women coaches have the tools and support they need to lead,” shared Lindsey with the council members and community members present.

Thank you, City of Bainbridge Island for a very memorable evening celebrating WSSA’s contributions to women’s history! We are grateful for such a supportive community helping to empower girls who play soccer and women who coach.
