Who We Are
West Sound Soccer Academy was founded in late 2023 to create the first women-led and girl-centric soccer academy west of Puget Sound. Our founders, board members, and advisors have extensive experience in coaching, public education, nonprofits, youth programs, government, and Fortune 100 companies.
Who We Serve
We serve girls born in 2009-2017 through our Junior Academy, Academy, and High School Academy programs. (If you have a player born in 2018 that you think would be a good fit for Junior Academy, please reach out to our Director of Coaching here.)
We also serve women coaches by providing training and education opportunities, flexible coaching arrangements, and mentorship from other women.
We acknowledge the limitations of gendered language and seek to serve girl players and women coaches, regardless of the gender they were assigned at birth, and non-binary individuals who were assigned female at birth.
The US Soccer Federation uses the term “girls” to describe the people we aim to serve. We recognize the limitations in that term wherever we use it, and will prefer the words “athletes” and “players” in our communications.
What Makes Us Different
Female Representation: WSSA players will see themselves represented in our founders, board members, and coaching staff.
Holistic Player Development: In addition to their technical skills, we work to holistically develop players through mental skills training, strength training, yoga, and customized dynamic warm-ups.
Commitment to Education and Support for Coaches: This is provided through funding for certification and professional development, monthly coaches’ meeting, and weekly coach/Director of Coaching check-ins (opportunities for feedback and reflection).
Commitment to Reducing Financial Barriers: We want more girls playing soccer and offer tiered and pay-what-you-can pricing to hep reduce the barriers for families and players.
Organizational Depth: Our organization includes our Board, Director of Coaching, Advisors (Mindfulness Coach, Team Dynamics Coach, Strength Coach, Pre-Hab/Injury Prevention Coach) and Team Coaches (lead and assistants).
Our Vision
To be a first-choice destination for girls who play soccer and women who coach in the communities west of Puget Sound: Bainbridge Island, Kitsap Peninsula, and beyond.
Our Mission
To cultivate a competitive soccer program that empowers, educates and supports girls who play soccer and women who coach, while fostering a culture of growth and success. We will work to develop players, coaches, and teams that embody our core values.
Our Values
Grit (do the hard thing), integrity (do the right thing), and commitment (keep showing up).
