Where do West Sound teams practice? Play games?

We train primarily at Battle Point Park and Bainbridge High School, both on Bainbridge Island. We play games both home, on Bainbridge, and throughout the region.

How competitive are your teams?

Our teams compete in the Washington Premier League and have won league titles, multiple local tournaments, and our 2009 team recently played in a WA Cup championship match. We’re growing more competitive year over year with aspirations to compete at the level of Washington Youth Soccer’s RCL and the Girls Academy.

What league does WSSA compete in?

All of our teams play in the Washington Premier League.

Which summer tournaments do your teams play in?
  • June 27 – 29, 2025 Skagit Firecracker, Academy & HS Academy Teams (Birth years 2009- 2015)

What does it cost to play on a West Sound team?

The cost depends on the age of the player and if they are playing 7v7, 9v9, or 11v11. You can read more about what is included in each team and their fees here.

How do I sign up for player identification and placement?

We will be hosting open practices and identification sessions for our 2025/26 team program, for girls born in 2009-2017, in April and May 2025. Exact dates and times are available here. Players must sign up for identification sessions in advance and you can do that here.

What do player identification sessions look like? Is this just another term for tryouts?

Player identification sessions give players an opportunity to display their technical and tactical skills in drills, small-sided games, and larger scrimmages. Our purpose in using the term “identification sessions” as opposed to “tryouts” is making it clear to players that our goal is to find the right spot for them on one of our teams. More details are here.

Will there be cuts? Will all players be placed on a team?

Our goal, in line with our mission, is to maximize participation and engagement for as many players as possible. While we will do our best to place each player on a team, either by offering them a roster spot or an extended roster spot, there may be cases where roster spots are full, or the identification session coaches feel that West Sound Soccer Academy is not the best fit for a player. In such cases, neither a roster spot nor extended roster spot will be offered. Learn more about Extended Roster spots below.

What are Extended Roster spots?

To increase opportunities for participation on our Academy and High School Academy teams, we may offer Extended Roster placements. These roster spots allow us to include players in our team program beyond the maximum number allowed on a tournament or league gameday roster. While game-time play is not guaranteed for extended roster players, they will be eligible to play in cases where absences, injuries, or illness create openings on gameday rosters. Fees for Extended Roster players may be paid month-by-month.

How many teams will there be at each age group?

The number of teams we form at a given age group will be influenced by both the number of players who register and the number of coaches we have available.

How will I be notified of my team placement?

Players will be notified within 48 hours of the final identification session for their age group.  Coaches will call players to discuss whether they are being offered a roster spot, extended roster spot, or neither.

When will I have to commit to the team, and what happens after I commit?

Team commitment decisions must be made within 24 hours after a roster spot is offered, as there may be alternates who will be offered a spot should a roster spot offer be declined. Team commitment is confirmed when the commitment paperwork and a first payment are received. Learn more about our flexible payment options and information about team fees here.

What if I am sick or otherwise unable to attend the identification sessions?

No make-up identification sessions will be held. In the case of unavoidable conflicts, please contact our Director of Coaching via email at Katie@WestSoundSoccer.org.

Do I have to attend both of the identification sessions?
  • While it is not required that players attend both identification sessions, attending both identification sessions maximizes a player’s opportunity to exhibit their skills to the player identification coaches.
  • It is imperative that even if you are planning to miss a session(s) that you still register online. You can do that here.
  • Please make sure that your player number is the same across both sessions.
Can I “play-up” for an older team?

Player placement is based not just on age, but also on ability, physicality, soccer IQ and social-emotional considerations. Play-up requests will be considered on a case by case basis. Please reach out to our Director of Coaching at Katie@WestSoundSoccer.org with questions or if your player is considering “playing-up”.
